Evermoor Way I: Yartar & Calling Horns
As the battle with the orcs came to an end, Sigismund says he sees another off in the distance and charged his horse after it. As the wagon was stuck in the mud, and Sig was moving faster than T’Sai could keep up, the party soon lost sight of him. Once the wagon was freed, the party only waited a short while for Sig to return. When he did not, they continued on to Yartar, knowing that he would catch up.
Upon arriving in Yartar, T’Sai took Reynard out to find a good time, while Pix, Thaminor, and Molish stabled the horses and went to the library to do some research. T’Sai and Reynard made their way to the One Foot in the Boat tavern, where they made friends with a half-orc patron, and went home with three of the barmaids for the night. After the library, Pix and Molish grabbed some dinner and went back to the wagon to keep an eye on things and spend the night. Looking for some good food and rest, Thaminor decided that The White-Winged Griffon wasn’t quite what he was looking for, and finally ended at The Pearl-Handled Pipe. Following breakfast the next morning, and realizing that they had never established a rally point, it took the party until lunchtime to meet back up.
Continuing along the Evermoor Way, all was quiet until the third day, when a tree trunk crashing into the road ahead spooked the horses and caused them to charge away into the fields. The trunk had been thrown by one of the two hill giants that now descended upon them! The giants were dispatched without too much trouble, both falling to a lightning bolt from Pix. Reynard recovered the horses, and T’Sai convinced the group that they should remove the trunk from the road, rather than attempt to go around, saying, “Everything being equal, let’s be the good guys.”
Stopping once more for a day of rest at the Calling Horns inn, the party seemed unconcerned that Sig had not yet caught up to them. A day of rest and good food passed easily, with T’Sai picking up the tab. With the horses rested, their journey to Silverymoon continued.
A couple days later, the horses were spooked again when a giant, purple worm-like creature burst up through the road ahead! Maintaining control, Molish steered the wagon off the road in an attempt to go around the creature. The stress of the rough terrain started to take its toll quickly, however, when the lynchpin connecting the neck yolk to the wagon tongue began to break. Reynard attempted to make his way from the jockey seat to one of the horses, but failed critically and was soon left behind on the ground. The wagon continued to take damage as Molish tried desperately to circumvent the giant worm, which was now burrowing back into the ground. Pix stepped out of the wagon, and into the air 50 feet over Reynard, ready to defend his companion. Reynard quickly cast a spell and climbed a rope straight up into the air, and disappeared inside a safe extradimensional space.
