Racism Hurts
After a little more discussion (and overt racism), the group asked for a few minutes alone to decide their course of action. Arkiel stepped out of the room and the group let out a collective sigh of relief. Raynard was opposed to helping her in any way. Pix mentioned that they could use some friends if they were going to be stuck in this land. T’Sai advocated taking the mission and subsequently the crown. Sig just wanted to help a damsel in distress.
Maekon mentioned that, in spite of Arkiel’s perceived ignorance, her fiance Dr. Dominiari was much more worldly. The Doctor would be happy to generously compensate the group for their assistance and if they were looking for allies, he would be a good candidate. She also reminded them that they were under no obligation to do any of this and if they wanted to tell Arkiel no, they could always begin looking for Rozleen’s clan to return the Tarroka deck.
The group decided getting out of town would probably be a good idea, since Arkiel’s racism seemed to be the default attitude for everyone. They also reasoned a search for the Vistani could be effected while running Arkiel’s errand. They called her back in to share the happy news.
Arkiel was both surprised and enthusiastic the group had agreed to help. She stated she was waiting on some last details to be delivered to her in order to be certain of the Crown’s location. Arkiel asked the group to meet her in Skald in seven days time. Arkiel, Maekon and T’Sai left. The group, including Maekon, left Harmonia the next morning heading towards Skald.
Although Skald was only 2 days travel, they decided to take a very scenic route in the hope of finding some sign of the Vistani. Late during the first afternoon, they were once again attacked by a pack of Dire Wolves. During the battle, Maekon made it quite obvious she did not hold wolves sacred by blowing 2 of them to bits with a shatter spell.
Just before nightfall, the party heard a woman sobbing. Investigating revealed a woman crying in front of a fresh grave. Sig spoke to the woman and found out the grave was her son’s, who had just recently been killed by some kind of monster that had been terrorizing the family. The woman, Maria, offered to take the group to her home so they could speak to her husband, who had broken his leg running from the monster.
Entering the home, Sig and Raynard spoke to the husband and learned some sort of creature was stalking the family. It had been doing so for over a week and had killed their livestock and their son the previous evening. Raynard and Sig healed the man’s leg and everyone convened downstairs to eat the food Maria had prepared. Pix offered a particularly bad performance prior to eating. Maekon followed up with a much more enjoyable performance and dinner was eaten.
