The Death of Sum
After dinner, the group decided to settle in for the evening. A brief survey of the property was conducted and the group took up positions deemed best suited to dealing with the alleged monster. Pix, Thaminor and Maekon stayed in the house. Raynard and Sum ascended to the roof of the barn. Sig stood inside the barn and T’Sai prowled the darkness.
The night drew on until Sum noticed a large pack of wolves approaching the barn. Behind them walked what could only be described as a wolf-man. While clearly a wolfen creature, it walked on two legs. The pack split in two with 3 dire wolves approaching the barn and the other 3 heading for the house.
Hearing the wolves nearby, Sig lit a torch to be able to see. This spurred the wolves approaching the barn into action and they charged in. The others began running for the house. The wolf-man hung back between the barn and the house. Hostilities had begun.
Raynard and T’Sai fired arrows into the creature with no apparent effect. Sum charged it and launched a dazzling (but mostly inaccurate) martial arts attack. Thaminor opened the door to house to cast a spell and block the wolves entry. Sig faced off against the 3 wolves in the barn.
The wolf-man began howling in a strangely haunting, yet soothing manner and the party felt a magical lethargy start to overtake them. Maekon immediately countered with a rousing musical performance. The 2 of the wolves at the house burst through the window, although Thaminor held one at the door. Sig fought the 3 in the barn while the archers again fired with no effect.
With the majority of the party fighting dire wolves, Sum was locked in single combat with the wolf-man. Sum quickly realized the fight was going against him and tried to extricate himself. He retreated back to the roof of the barn but his enemy followed to continue the fight.
Sig remained busy with the wolves in the barn. Thaminor, Pix and Maekon continued to fight the wolves in the house. T’Sai assisted Thaminor by killing the wolf at the door and Raynard threw himself off the roof to help fight the wolves at the barn. Once again, Sum was alone with his enemy.
Unable to adequately defend himself, Sum was ripped apart by the wolf-man, who then began feasting on his body. The rest of the party finished their skirmishes and launched attacks on the wolf-man, killing him, but it was too late to save Sum.
In the aftermath, the wolf-man changed into a human form and Ontosh (the husband) identified him as their cousin, Jack. Ontosh said Jack lived near by but had no idea why he would be trying to kill his family. All of the corpses were stacked in the barn and secured, in the hope of avoiding anymore attention that evening.
The next morning, Ontosh asked the group to help bury all the bodies so no one would learn what had happened at the farm. He also told the group where to find Jack’s cabin and said they were free to ransack it and keep anything of value they could find. After looting the cabin, the group pressed on to Skald. Now that they have found their way to Skald, the group must decide how they are going to pass the time while waiting for Arkiel to arrive.
